    Roadmap livestream notes

    Posted: 11 Aug 2020 03:06 PM PDT

New updated roadmap released last Friday

What's it like to put a roadmap together?

    • Involves a lot of conversations with the team
    • What ambitions are, how they want to improve the game, assessing priorities
    • Every quarter they will revisit the roadmap to revise things based on feedback and other impacts
    • In the short term, there are a lot of small updates so players don't have to wait for a module release for new content/updates
    • Taking steps towards more episodic content such as Rage of Bel, Redeemed Citadel
    • Items on the roadmap are not the full content of an episode release

New class: is it going to be support/dps/tank?

    • Don't want to reveal too much so people won't 'zero in'
    • One spec is DPS
    • A lot of information about this class will be coming out next year, including a closed and open beta

Classes in general: what are plans for balancing?

    • No 'set order' for balancing classes/paths
    • Barb tank powers will be looked at soonish
    • Looking at subpar DPS paths on two DPS classes
    • Balance and fixes are not pushed back to do everything all at once - they want to get them out as quickly as possible
    • Feel that game is closer in balance than it has been in a long time but still some way to go

Why are strongholds not on the roadmap?

    • Strongholds have been on previous roadmaps because they were a big part of it
    • Strongholds use up a lot of resources to work on and an update would take a lot of focus
    • It's not off the radar but also not something that's happening Soon™
    • When it does happen it will be a Big Feature

    What does refresh/evolve mean?

    • Terms are 'pulled out of a hat'
    • A 'refresh' usually means that the rewards will be refreshed - ie, there will be new items
    • Reworking usually means a deeper level of change

How does revisiting/refining older content factor into roadmaps?

    • The question is 'how much do we make new' versus 'how much do we improve what we have'
    • General experience is most people would like new content (ex. Dungeons) but they also know they have older content that needs to be refined because its built on old tech/etc
    • Putting new content out is very important
    • Very interested in going back to old settings/etc for new storylines
    • Interested in doing more extra-planar adventures - going back to Avernus, going to other planes, etc
    • But there is a 'fatigue point' - the current setting needs a break after a while so they move on

What are the goals of scaling improvements?

    • End goal is that it's unobtrusive and forgotten about - so people aren't having to fiddle with equipment etc
    • Scaling exists to enable players to play a wide range of content in the game while still granting relevant rewards such as RAD etc, without facerolling low end areas/content
    • Plan is to put Scaling Part 2 on preview for a few months for feedback before it goes live

What's the difference between 'improved dungeon rewards' and 'better rewards drops'

    • Semantics mostly :P
    • Players should see 'more meaningful' stuff in dungeon chests (not levelling but redq)
    • New event reward system - not much they can go into but they're exploring ideas about community event rewards

What will be in Professions update v Masterwork update?

    • Masterwork is more work behind the scenes, which is why it keeps being pushed back
    • Which is why they are adding in a professions update in its own
    • Plan is to improve profession gear so its viable
    • Masterwork: new tiers, new stuff, new quests

Is Profession update related to the QoL CDP?

    • Not this round of updates
    • Anything on the roadmap has been already planned/worked up up to six months/a year ago
    • CDP stuff won't be for longer down the line
    • CDP stuff is not being ignored but will be tackled in future updates

Why do they choose the races they do? Why not things like lycanthropes with Barovia, Tabaxi with m13?

    • New races were not initially added for a long time because they weren't getting a lot of feedback asking for them
    • Pleased with the release of the Gith because it gets back to one of their strengths which is offering wide customisation for playable characters
    • Aasimar came out of a conversation about the Redeemed Citadel and ties into what is going on in the world
    • Haven't always felt they should invest in new races which is why they haven't had many.
    • They did talk about transformations (ex. Lycanthropes) but were not convinced that the playerbase wanted it versus the time and resources they would spend on it

Aasimar: What is the unlock going to be like? Will there be stats/bonuses like DB?

    • Will followup with stats
    • Unlock will be a 'capstone reward' if you complete the event

    Episodic Content

There will be a blog post this week talking about Redeemed Citadel.

Will Redeemed Citadel require Zariel trial?

    • No. :)

Will Episodes/Redeemed Citadel provide group content?

    • Yup. :)

M20 Episodes - differently spaced and only two. What's up with this.

    • Trying to find what the ideal pacing/etc for episodes and NOW
    • RC started as one large episode. Essentially it is still that but just in four stages.
    • Want to continue the idea of an evolving world but for each episode to have a certain amount of self contained content.
    • The gaps between those episodes is shorter than between modules has been previously
    • Essentially an experiment in cadence of content

    Mounts

    Mythic Mounts????

    • Yes there is mount work going on
    • It may be Soon™ and a Surprise™
    • Mythic mount is 'smallest part of the update'
    • Blog post in two weeks on this topic

Events? How are they going to be reworked? How different is a refresh?

    • 'refresh' is new rewards, maybe a new quest (eg. A new mask for Liars)
    • 'rework' is going in and reworking the event mechanics

    New events - equipment gated/scaled?

    • Scaling is also aimed at helping lower/newer players scale up to high level events
    • EG. Scaling low end players up for Hell Pit

Will upcoming events/refreshes give advantage to BiS players?

    • Tales is the only event they really tailored for endgame players, true endgame stuff is saved for trials and newest dungeon
    • Aim is for average player to be able to do all events

    Consoles?

    • Consoles will get everything, may be delays due to cert

    Tales coming back?

    • Don't know yet if Tales will return or if artifacts will come back via different source, eg, different event, zen store, wondrous bazaar

Why is the new adventure system all the way at the end? Can we talk about it?

    • Talking about M21 generally - it's about getting people to endgame with better gear, better understanding of the game, getting better experience of the game
    • Improvements to questing and the journal system and streamlining the levelling experience

Will there be a update focused on JUST bug squishing?

    • Trying to be more responsive to problems on an ongoing basis
    • Something like Rocktober might be great but as a team they are organised to attack bugs more aggressively
    • They are not waiting for a chunk of time to attack things but there may be a period of time which they dedicate to certain kinds of improvements
    • Trying to be more on the ball and responsive to player feedback
    • Having revised roadmaps is a part of that

Accessibility wrt disability - colour blindness, etc. Is this something you'd put into a roadmap or make changes over time?

    • If there is a need for accessibility changes then they will try to implement it - playerbase need to speak up

    Miscellaneous statements

    • Yes wizards got nerfed. No wizards are not going to get buffed. Always looking at balance but no plans to change wiz currently
    • They are trying to figure out episodic content and delivering episodic content, and they want player feedback on releases - are they satisfying, is there a good amount of content/progression, is it too grindy, etc
    • More streams are planned

Just picturing how much trouble I’d end up getting in if someone tried to treat me in real life the same way they did in Neverwinter...

    Posted: 11 Aug 2020 01:25 AM PDT

For example... today I was farming manes in avernus. Just driving over them where they spawn. Back over them... wait for a respawn... drive forward over them... wait. Exciting stuff.

To do it, I'd had to change instances once to get to an instance where it wasn't already being farmed.

So I thought it odd when, a few minutes in, someone else drives up and starts smashing into the side of the car, saying "sorry, I need maps" and trying to prevent me from continuing my farming.

In real life, a similar situation might be someone pumping gas into the car when a stranger pulls there car up, pulls the pump out of your car, pushes you away, and says "sorry, I need gas".

Why is this kind of thing okay in games when it would prompt a beat down in real life that would fit well on the "instant karma" reddit page?

    Augment companions

    Posted: 11 Aug 2020 09:55 PM PDT

So I'm still a novice at the game and I was wondering if I got a mount insignia bonus that made my augment companion do 20% more damage would it transfer to me?

    Siege of Neverwinter

    Posted: 11 Aug 2020 01:55 PM PDT

How does this event work? Is it guild based? Or queue based like the random trials/dungeons? Because my guild is so inactive it's like a solo guild. Anyone have any info on how it works? I'd like to fair better better than I did the first time I ran Ascerak's elevator dungeon...I kept killing those skulls because I had no clue what I was doing...it didn't end well 😳

    Queues?

    Posted: 11 Aug 2020 01:07 PM PDT

Is there any reason why it's taking 10+ minutes to find a queue?

Best gear for a new lvl 80?

    Posted: 11 Aug 2020 06:35 PM PDT

So with the possible Mastercrafting rework planned, reading that reminds me that my jewelcrafting is still bugged...

    Posted: 11 Aug 2020 04:04 PM PDT

Because i have finished all and have receipts III and all I see is golden chandelier...

Not sure if I have IV aswell(need to check), but definitely III

Any ideas, anyone has the same problem?

    Benign orders documents

    Posted: 11 Aug 2020 03:46 PM PDT

I'm running out of room and still a bit short of a bigger bag. I was looking to get rid of things I don't need. I have two benign orders of the third eye documents. Out of interest put them on auction, but they defaulted to 25k AD sell price. Do they have some value I can't find online, or is that just a mistake?

    Safe way to switch loadouts

    Posted: 11 Aug 2020 01:03 PM PDT

I would like to know if someone could give me a "safe" way to switch loadouts. My goal here is to avoid that bug when you can't switch and there's the message that some items are missing (or a message close to that) I've experienced this bug, tried all the suggested method, but in the end I had to copy a functionnal loadout (overwriting the buggy one)... then use a token to remake my loadout. Hope it's clear enough, sorry for my english, it's not my main language.

Any help is appreciated

Experienced Neverwinter Players: How long is the grind to challenging and rewarding content?

    Posted: 11 Aug 2020 09:35 AM PDT

I am an end game ESO player who is considering starting Neverwinter. In ESO, challenging content really becomes accessible in the CP 160 to 300 range where players can collect gear that is at its max level, they can start veteran difficulty content, and mechanics can't be face rolled anymore. This takes roughly 2-4 weeks to reach depending on your pace, without any sort of xp boosters. For CP 300, it probably takes an additional 2-4 weeks.

What is the timeline for reaching engaging and challenging content in Neverwinter? Not necessarily the hardest content, but something that can't be haphazardly completed with ease.

Why is Energon not considered an augment companion?

And how do you earn trade bars? The trade bar vendor says Lockboxes but the only thing I get in lockboxes is the same worthless stones, over and over and over.

    Farming RP

    Posted: 11 Aug 2020 07:12 AM PDT

Is there a better area/way to farm for RP? Currently I use 5x dragon hoard enchantments and just run around killing and hoping for drops. I've quickly exhausted my meager RP supply trying to upgrade the artifact equipment. Anything else to be done?
