If you are wanting to chat with people, the Protector's Enclave Discord server is available. While it's not an official Discord, it is the closest thing we have to one, and there are devs and other PWE & Cryptic staff present. The subreddit also has its own built in chat system, but it's buggy and gets cleared of text often (due to bugs with Reddit).

We have a list of recruiting guilds. If you wish to have your guild added to the list, leave a LINK here in this thread. See the list for more details.

Our subreddit's wiki is in the process of being updated. Check it out to see if it's been updated!

If you are new to Reddit, please expect your first posts and comments to need manual approval from a Moderator first before they can officially be posted/shared. This is standard for all New Accounts, we just ask that you be patient while waiting for a manual approval.

    Dragons need to be updated

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 10:13 PM PST

Something about dragons need to be changed. Especially in the low level areas like neverdeath graveyard. It has become near impossible for new players and alts to get started in the tyranny of dragons campaign. There are almost always very high level players that one-shot dragons like charthraxis before anyone else can land a hit, leaving them without the rewards and being unable to complete the daily quest.

Waiting 20 minutes for the dragon to spawn only for some OP dude to kill it before you can get close enough to touch it, then having to wait another 20 minutes or session hop only for it to happen again makes things a tad bit aggravating.

Devs need to apply scaling to dragons like they do in dungeons. Give the little guys a shot, yeah?

    Campaign questing after update

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 07:01 PM PST

After update there will be changes on scaling right, so, if now I one-shot everything in Sharandar for example, if I go back there after update my item level would be adjusted and therefore it would become challenging?

Sharandar is just an example, it could be Icewind Dale, or any other of the Legacy Campaigns.

New to the game, how do i efficiently manage divinity as cleric or paladin?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 08:10 PM PST

Kind of a wierd question but my friends and i recently started playing and have been trying out cleric and paladin however it takes forever to regenerate divinity during boss fights to the point where im not even sure if channel divinity does anything. So I ask are we doing something wrong? Im playing cleric and we're all around level 20 and i kinda just sit there channeling divinity for most of the fight and its super boring

    coming back after 6 years

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 02:14 PM PST

hi I never use reddit but though maybe I could get a straightforward answer here..

I used to play neverwinter religiously when I was in college with several irl friends.. I mean 12+hours a day since the release of the steam beta... (950+hours just recorded on steam lol)

Before arc or any of that. we played like this until the end of 2015 and we were all quite wealthy, had a lot of luck in the auction house... I still have a significant amount of AD and zen, several max lvl characters, t2 sets like avatar of war, many good items and armor enchantments, etc..

I'm thinking about coming back now with my current roommate (who has never played but is an old diablo 2 pro so he understands the grind)

    my questions are;

are any of my legacy items/weapons/armors/companions still decent or is everything old considered weak?

how much of my knowledge refarding dungeons, market economy, skills and character builds is still relevant?

I'd love to play again but I'm worried it's going to be like relearning the game again because of how much new stuff there is..

    Thanks for any advice

How much combined rating does 100% mount bolster give on preview?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 04:41 PM PST

Whats the combined rating on the mythic mount powers fully bolstered on preview?

How do those stats compare with enchants and the current high lvl avernus or lion's gear?

Could we cut the scope of the proposed combat changes please? I have way too many ideas. (long)

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 12:55 AM PST

I'm very worried about the upcoming changes. I am not against change per se, and I am not worried that it's a cash grab. I'm worried that the devs are overenthusiastic and have no idea where they're going with this.

I have been a software guy for 30-40 years, and have worked on a lot of big projects migrating working software to new designs and new architectures. Always, always, the best plan is to move with baby steps towards a well-defined goal. When I saw on the arc forums that the devs changed how deflect worked, I realised that they had no idea what the combat system was going to look like in the end, and then I began to worry that they were not making baby steps, they were making a giant leap into the unknown. Like my tank does in Cradle of the Death God, which NEVER ends well.

Consider what we're affecting with here:

    • the combat system which must work for newbs and end-gamers, and 14 or however many paragon paths
    • powers on every mount
    • powers on every companion
    • powers on every item
    • balance in the economy

And there are thousands of players who will tell each other any weakness they find in the changes and exploit it mercilessly. There are way too many ways to screw this up.

First of all, the changes to armor penetration. Nobody knows why they want to do that, nobody really wants forte, and it basically requires a rewrite of the combat system. I think it's a bad idea which should be dumped. Come back to it later if it will make things better, but get it out of this project. And the percentage-based system - keep it under the hood until there's a good reason to expose it.

Secondly, capping power. As a DPS, tank, and healer, I can see the game being ruined by ultra-high DPS. Sorry guys - some of you are good friends of mine. Decreasing power is a great idea, but capping it is a problem because it means players have nowhere to throw extra stats. It constrains the system too much. At the moment, DPSes get close enough in the non-damage stats, and spend the rest of their career adding to their power. Let them continue doing that, but make power less effective. At the moment, power works linearly - the amount of extra damage you get going from 50K to 100K is the same as the extra you get going from 100K to 150K. The formula could be changed so that additional power does work, just not as much. This would affect the very high power DPSes (and healers, I guess), but not so much the mediocre rabble. So the end-gamers would need to adapt to doing a bit less damage, and Halaster would be a bit harder to kill. Demogorgon might survive 30 seconds longer.

Thirdly, bonding runestones. I feel it was an awful mistake to announce exchange prices for bonding runestones before the code was working, but I understand the motivation. There is now a bubble waiting to burst in the economy, and it must be lanced. So I had to think of some way to deal with that. I have an idea.

Yes, get rid of bonding runestones. You get 85% of fighting companion stats, and 100% of augment companion stats as the idea has been. Yes this means that other runestones will have been nerfed, as they can no longer be multiplied by 3 - every stat would work like HP does now on a runestone. Instead, create 3 new enchantment slots - artifact enchantments.

An artifact enchantment slot works with a non-active artifact slot. A normal enchantment goes into it - assassin's, radiant, azure, etc - but the slot magnifies the effect of the enchantment by between 1 and 15 times. The slot has a level from 1 to 15 of its own, and it costs to level it up like an enchantment or runestone. When you put an enchantment in a slot, a multiplier is calculated - it is the minimum of the enchantment level and the slot level, with the caveat that quality of theassociated artifact further constrains the multiplier - a legendary artifact means the mutliplier can be at most 14, if you want a 15x then you need a mythic artifact. New players get the artifact enchantment slots when they would currently get companion equipment slots.

There would need to be maths done, but what I am hoping is that these mega-enchantment slots would give about the same stats as current bondings, and so not change the scale of the game too much. And the item level for the enchantment in the slot should be the multiplier times the item level for the enchantment. I am hoping that the ability to calculate a meaningful item level will help with the scaling problem.

Now the design reason these slots need to be levelled is not actually for game purposes, it's for economic purposes. All of the rank 15 bondings which people want 2.6mil for have to go somewhere. So a rank 15 artifact enchantment slot should cost 2.6mil. And as you would usually get a rank 15 slot by a levelling process like an enchantment, that cost seems fair.

(BTW, on the topic of exchanging bondings for AD, I propose that they be limited to 3 per week, so as to throttle the flow of AD into the economy but not rip anyone off).

Finally, let's talk about scaling. I recognise that higher level players have way too easy a time doing low level content. As soon as one of my toons gets to level 80, between the account mounts and companions and hand-me-down gear, almost all of the level 80 content is trivially easy. So scaling would make it more interesting. On the other hand, if you scale players too aggressively so that content they've done a hundred times is challenging, they'll stop doing it and they'll want more new content. So, too much scaling is a risk.

What to currently do with Mod 20 coming around?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 12:51 PM PST

I play a Cleric with an IL of 22K. I switched from my Wizard main (25K) recently as I fell out of love with it after returning from a long break.

To get to the main question, let me describe my situation first.

Currently, I have around 4 mil ad, x3 bonding runestone rank 15, 25 enchanted keys and only about 700 tarmalune bars. Only a couple of companion and mount upgrade tokens.

My question is simply what should I do currently to maximize benefit for when Mod 20 starts? I would really like to be near (if not at) end game next mod.

I received advice to open forsaken lock boxes and buy companion and mount upgrade tokens from tarmalune store. Or to buy as many companion upgrade packs as possible from AH. Others said to sit, hoard and wait.

I understand that the vision is quite hazy at the moment, but please let me know if you have any advice.

Want to return, how is the revamped classes and state of farming ?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 11:19 AM PST

I haven't played in like 4 years, always wanted to return but just been too busy with work. Now I have some free time and thinking of returning. I'm of a guild and some of the members are my irl friends and they still play and I think I will enjoy playing the game again, however I never liked farming. I only reached max level with a single character [control wizard] and kept playing him for 3 years as I didn't want to grind another character. So with the new class system and all, can I get back into the game without much farming, my playstyle is some casual dungeons with friends and mostly roleplaying but I don't want to be a burden on my friends due to low level / outdated stats and items during dungeon clears.

What's the summerfest chicken mount *called*

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 06:47 AM PST

Hey, I just saw someone riding a chicken mount and they said it was from Summerfest/could be found on the auction house, but I can't find anything about it anywhere. What's the mount actually called? (they logged off before I could ask)

Edit: thanks! I guess I was April Fool'd twice on New Years!
